Best of 411 Volume 2

Best of 411 Volume 2 was available in the CCS Summer 1996 Catalog. I owned it at one time and it got stuck in my VHS. I took it to a repair shop and when I went back the guy said it came up missing and just gave me $20 for it. I figured he watched it and wanted to keep it or someone else did. I was kinda pissed but what are you gonna do? I think I bought it for $9.99 at Zumiez in Medford Oregon so it didn't matter that much.

CCS Summer 1996 Catalog

CCS knew what it was doing with its catalogs. The marketing department has skaters figured out and the company has done very well in establishing a solid foundation. The catalogs were a mix of skateboarding photos much like a regular skateboard magazine coupled with hi-res product images. The selection was always great and the prices were reasonable. CCS catalogs were something you looked forward to coming every new season. This summer 1996 catalog features Brian Childers doing a Frontside 5-0 at the now demolished Hubba Hidehout in San Francisco. Since the 90's, San Francisco has undergone an overtaking by yuppies that don't care for skateboarders that much even though they helped build the image of the state.

Skates On Haight 1996 Catalog

Skates On Haight is of course located in San Francisco on Haight St. As you can see they've been established for quite awhile. The shoes and decks in this catalog make me wish they were still available for sale. Good luck finding a new pair of Etnies MC Raps anywhere today. The last pair of Sal Barbier 23's I saw on eBay were listed for over $350 and had wear and damage. Etnies brought back the Sal's but replaced them with a 20 on the heel rather than a 23 and the sole is different from the original. This is an all around decent catalog. I'm not too fond of the rollerblade section. I don't know if kids nowadays care about rollerbladers because they seem to all be on goofy scooters and all types of stupid shit. Back in the day, rollerbladers were seen as style biters and poo butts.

Neighborhood: 'Personalities' - Dylan Gardner

Neighborhood was a dope ass skateboard company from Los Angeles that had a distinct Chicano vibe to it. Most of the riders were Chicano except for the token guerro, Dylan Gardner. The video's soundtrack is one of the best skate video soundtracks ever. It included Santo and Johnny, The Rolling Stones, Too $hort and others. For Dylan's part they used DAAAM! by Tha Alkaholiks and it's appropriate as fuck for Dylan's personal style. With 'Personalities' Neighborhood truly captured the personalities of all their team members.

Church of Skatan: Summer 1995 Catalog

Church of Skatan is a prominent skateboard shop that still exists to this day in Santa Barbara, CA. This is their Summer 1995 catalog in its entirety. Something noteworthy about this catalog is the presence of the Shorty's brand in this catalog. Shorty's didn't reach substantial market success until a couple years later when they finally developed a skate team and began releasing videos. This is the only Church of Skatan catalog that I own. Although it is a smaller catalog when compared to CCS catalogs, it includes brands that were hard to find and not distributed by larger outfits at the time. Something else also cool about this catalog is the 1-800 number. If you noticed, the number isn't in the usual sequence for 1-800 numbers. Post a comment when you figure out what it reads.
